Gustavo G. Flores-Bernal was born in the State of Mexico and raised in Mexico City. His love of science began as a child, paving the way for a scientific career with academic excellence from an early age. In high school, he received the Medal of Merit from the Rotary International Club for achieving the highest grade point average (Valedictorian). He obtained his Bachelor of Science (Industrial Pharmaceutical Chemistry) with Summa Cumme Laude Honors and then his Master's degree from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in the field of asymmetric synthesis under the supervision of Prof. L. Gerardo Zepeda-Vallejo. In 2019, he started doctoral studies at National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) under the supervision of Prof. Luis D. Miranda. His doctoral work focused on copper-mediated radical functionalization of π-systems (C-H functionalization and tandem reactions). In 2024, he obtained his PhD degree with Summa Cumme Laude Honors. In June 2025, Gustavo was one of four early-career scholars awarded for the UC Alianza MX Postdoctoral Research Fellowship pilot program, through which he joined Prof. Osvaldo Gutierrez's group in October of the same year, to work on the development of stereoselective iron-catalyzed multicomponent reactions. In his free time, Gustavo plays video games, listens to music, and loves spending time with family and friends.
