Professor Osvaldo Gutierrez, holder of the Fraser and Norma Stoddart Chair in Contemporary Chemistry, is one of ten organic chemists to be selected by the American Chemical Society (ACS) for the prestigious 2027 Arthur C. Cope Mid-Career Scholar Award for his contributions to the field of organic chemistry.

Dr. Gogoi graduated with his PhD in chemistry from Texas A&M University! Dr. Gogoi will continue his academic career as a Postdoctoral fellow at Merck Research Laboratories

Achyut Gogoi and Poulami Mukherjee's paper, "Asymmetric Iron-Catalyzed Multicomponent Radical Dicarbofunctionalization of Vinyl Organoboron Compounds" was published in ACS Catalysis.

After working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Gutierrez Group, Dr. Leal Cárdenas accepted a position as a research scientist and managing director at Alma Therapeutics

Nobel Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart made a generous gift to UCLA to establish the Fraser and Norma Stoddart Chair in Contemporary Chemistry with the goal of creating a full chair in the UCLA Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry to recruit an organic chemist who is engaged in forward-looking science, as Sir Fraser did throughout his illustrious career.

The Gutierrez research group in collaboration with Dr. Miller and Dr. Gvildys have been training community college students in computational chemistry. We welcome everyone to find out more about the amazing science these undergraduate students have accomplished!​

The Gutierrez research group is working on new and sustainable methods of making chemical compounds, including medicines, which may help to yield better health outcomes nationally and globally.

Mac presented her research poster at the Amgen Student Poster Session and was selected among the five poster winners.

Dr. Remy Lalise and Poulami Mukherjee's paper, "Stereo-reversed E2 unlocks Z-selective C–H functionalization" was published in Science.

Dr. Gustavo G. Flores will be joining the Gutierrez Group as a Alianza MX Postdoctoral Research Fellow!

Dr. Aguirre recently joined the Gutierrez Lab from the Thomas Group at Texas A&M University. 

Dr. Rentería-Gomez and Achyut Gogoi's paper, "Iron-catalysed radical difunctionalization of alkenes," was published in Nature Synthesis.

After working as a postdoctoral fellow at the Gutierrez Group, Dr. Lalisse accepted a position as a patent examiner in chemistry at the USPTO.

Dr. Yin graduated with his PhD in chemistry from Texas A&M University! Dr. Yin will continue his academic career as a Postdoctoral scholar at the University of Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Leal Cárdenas received the UCLA Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Award for his outstanding research, teaching, and service.
