Matt was born in San Luis Obispo, California receiving his Bachelor’s in Chemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2024.There, he worked under the supervision of Bruce Lipshutz developing environmentally benign methods for converting carboxylic acids to amides, esters, and thioesters. He also worked on developing nickel-catalyzed cross-electrophile coupling reactions in water. Matt is currently a joint student, as a member of the Gutierrez and Conway labs, focusing on using DFT to design hypoxia activated fluorescent probes. He also works on DFT guided mechanistic elucidation of complex processes. Outside of Chemistry, Matt enjoys cycling, climbing, and most other outdoor activities.
