Kimmy Do was born in Vietnam, grew up with both Vietnamese and Chinese cultures, and moved to the U.S. when she was 15 years old. She is currently studying Biochemistry at Sacramento City College. She has always been interested in healthcare, chemistry, and understanding how medications work in the human body. Her interest in organic chemistry grew after she was exposed to research and learned how organic reactions can be applied to medicine, drug development, and pharmacy. She has participated in research through Sacramento City College in collaboration with Dr. Gutierrez’s group, where she explored computational chemistry and iron-catalyzed multicomponent reactions. In summer 2026, she joined Dr. Gutierrez’s group at UCLA, where she hopes to build a stronger foundation in organic and synthetic chemistry, as well as research related to medication development. She is also interested in applying chemistry and research to better understand drug mechanisms and hopes to pursue a PharmD degree or continue working in medication-related research in the future. Outside of academics, she enjoys photography, hiking, volunteering, exploring new places, and learning more about healthcare.
